hundredweight of these.

I would expect the price will go down soon. There's talk of cloning
mammoths. a la Jurrasic Park, from DNA still intact after being buried
for thousands of years in Siberian ice. Once they get a few herds
going, that should really increase the supply of ivory and bring the
price down. |

I wouldn't count on it. Humans helped bring
these creatures to extinction once before,
and if anything, we are even "better" at this
sort of thing now than we ever were. The
poaching of big game can only be halted if
we hire trained professionals to hunt them
down and bring them to justice; naturally,
this means killing them all off for "resisting
arrest", ala Arnold Swarzennegger's
Terminator.
The key thing to remember is to reject the
method used in the movie Jurrasic Park,
wherein frog DNA was substituted for the
missing portions of dino's. Tell the
Franken-scientists to instead use the DNA
of elephants-- but remember, you can't let
the clones get out of control (remember
what happenned in the Star Wars series?).
They need to recreate one of the natural
predators of mammoths to keep them in
top shape and their numbers under control;
I'm thinking maybe the sabre-toothed tiger,
or, in warmer climes, a fifty-foot long
crockodile. Don't worry about these last
two getting out of control; if they become
too numerous, we have heat-seeking
missiles, DDT, water pollution, and if all
else fails, we can bring back some even
bigger beast, like maybe T-rex, and feed
her growth hormones.
Say, what's so special about mammoth
ivory, anyway? Let's just use redwood
trees to make our chess sets, as they're
all going to burn down anyway due to the
effects of global warming. What a hor-
rible waste-- to clone woolly mammoths!
If scientists are going to clone, they ought
to focus on what the world really needs.
For instance, they might clone smart
people, as there is a severe shortage of
those in the world today; or they could
clone the world's sexiest woman. Just
an idea... .

additionally they could clone Sloan, then Sloan-clones could obsess
over each other's suspected behaviors, which is likely a full-time
job, therefore relieving the rest of us of that sort of fascination -
there could even be a newsgroup for Sloan-Clones only. The real clones
would all turn on any imposter and... it would be like that guy who
escaped from prison in CA and who then stole a car and took a woman
hostage - there was then a hot pursuit for hours as he headed south
for the border until suddently he stopped the car and got out and
walked back towards the police following him
he asked them to arrest him, anything, he said, to get away from that
woman's mouth
[she had been scolding and 'improving' him for the past 3 hours] ...

And Woolly Mammoths is a 3/2, with trample if you have a snow land, so
they are just as vulnerable as the 4/2 Giant Cockroach.

Hmm... that could potentially circumvent the
whole purpose of cloning the sexy women.
If they clone smart people, they ought to be
male so as to equalize the distribution of
intellect between the sexes. Also note that
most politicians are men, and as these die
off we could replace them with clones, who
can actually think. Just be sure we keep the
sexy-women clones out of the Oval Office.

Hey, who is obsessing now? Me, I was
thinking about sexy women and sabre-
tooth tigers, while you obsess over one
peculiar rgc poster and others obsess
over cockroaches. In fact, not one of
the readers besides me has obsessed
over cloning sexy women-- what does
this say about them? That's right, they
are cockroach-crazy (except for one,
who seems to obsess over Red Chief;
and for all we know Red Chief could be
the code name of a cockroach)!
But... back to the subject of this thread.
Umm... what the heck was it? Oh yes--
sending memos to the USCF. I say we
vote, and if the majority of cockroach-
loving sickos want to send 'em a memo,
we send it. Maybe we could even write
something on it... maybe a warning to
watch out for an army of giant cock-
roaches, led by this "Red Chief".
