Last week's episode of "Noramimi 2" had a mermaid chara who turned Noramimi
into a "mer-oni". That, combined with Rob Kelk's recent inquiry about anime
"angels" got me to thinking about mermaids in anime. So I did a bit of
digging in various sources such as Anime News Network and My Anime List
(http://myanimelist.net/ ), (as well as into my creaky old memory) to see
how many anime containing mermaids that I could list.

The ones that I found by simply looking up "mermaid" in ANN and MAL are:

"The Little Mermaid" - 1975 anime version and the Saban 1991 version

"Mako the Mermaid"

"Mermaid Forest" - in its various incarnations

"Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch"

"Mermaid's Scar" - from the Rumic World series

"Ningyo" - a very early anime that I've never seen

From my memory, I come up with:

"Noramimi 2" - as mentioned above

"Magipoka" - the "Not So Little Mermaid" episode

"One Piece" - the old broad from the Water 7 arc, whose name I've forgotten

"Petshop of Horrors" - the mermaid episode

Mermaid imagery:

"Tenshina Konamaiki" - the mermaid in the opening animation

My memory is coming up blank at the moment for more anime series with
mermaids, so I'll leave it to the rest of you to come up with more examples.

Thanks -

This is probably the second EVER appearance of mermaids in
anime

(the first, naturally, was in an episode of Astro Boy).

Those Who Hunt Elves had an episode, though technically I guess they were
MerElves. May have been in TWHE2.

Amuro in Umisho. She's depicted as a mermaid in the OP, though it's
never conclusively established whether or not she is one.
