Visited our local marshes yesterday and was pleased to see "flocks" of
Hooded Mergansers, Buffleheads and Green Winged Teal arriving. A few Wood
Stork are still hanging around, while the Cormorant are bunching up in large
numbers. Most will be headed further south. We have rainy, warmer weather
moving in for the next few days. Still have not seen any Goldfinch.

I saw my first of the winter Hermit Thrush yesterday. I love
thrushes. They tend to fly up on a branch close to the ground and
think they are no longer visible. this one sat just a few feet from
me and thought I couldn't see him even though he "clucked" the whole
time I was watching him.

I ran into a family of Pileated Woodpeckers in the woods. There were
at least three maybe four. I had two in sight at one time several
times with one or two calling or hammering out of sight.

My Daughter, Granddaughter and I will be birding Bear island on
Sunday--hoping for ducks.
