Hi all,
I know there are a number of folks in this NG who have
had, or are considering cataract surgery, so let me make
a few last comments. A week and a half ago I had surgery
on my second eye. The anesthetic injections can sometimes
cause swelling and bruising around the eye. Let me tell you,
I had the mother of all black eyes. Last week I went to the
license bureau to redo the eye test and have the corrective
lens restriction removed from my drivers license. I passed
the eye test easily, but they had to take a new photo.
The gal at the bureau assured me that my black eye showed
quite nicely on the new license photo. :-)
To anyone considering cataract surgery - do it now!

We're in the San Joaquin Valley of central California, Dick. Same
pleasant temps predicted for the next 10 days. These two hummers are
finally getting used to me being somewhat close to the feeder. I've
been standing about 3 feet away when they've flown up to it. But
they're still skiddish of movement. They'll fly off and come right back.
And they're rarely at the feeder together. I've only see that once or
twice all summer.
This is a great group. I learned some things here like the reason these
hummers would buzz my coastal redwoods - bugs. That had me stumped for
a while. LOL |

Tammie - you beat me to it! I want to see the picture too. I'm not
particularly vain, but I'd have waited a few days for the black eye to fade.
After all, here, you are stuck with that photo for 4 years and have to show
it all the time.

this is odd. I never had a black eye! Different way of doing things
I guess. I never got my licence changed either for that matter. I
have a thing I carry in my wallet from my doctor that I guess is legal
here in SC and besides that I almost always wear sunglasses when I
drive.

So glad you're OK now!!
I didn't have swelling or black eyes, guess I was lucky.
Isn't is nice to be able to see things clearly?

It's wonderful! |
And for anyone who thinks a black eye is funny ... I don't
think it's funny - it's a hoot! Luckily, I don't have to show
my ID to get into bars. I'm anxious to get my new drivers
license with the black eye photo.

Sorry for the quality of the image, but it's the best I can do with a 200 mm
lens and an uncooperative subject.

It looks like a juvenile male Rubythroated Hummingbird, which would fit
right in for Kinder at this time of year.
Also, for images, you should try posting them to alt.binaries.birds and
referencing the post here as this is not a binaries group and attaching
images to posts here may unexpectedly clog up someone's dialup
connection, among other undesirable outcomes.

Or, as in my case, the post just won't show up if there is an image attached
to it. Here's a suggestion, Clayton: try opening up a PhotoBucket account
for posting photos here. You can put your photos on PhotoBucket and then
post a link to them here. Many folks here, like me, can't get binary
newsgroups and otherwise cannot see photos at all.

Adding to that: many news providers delete messages with images, so many
in the group won't see your post. Also, judicious cropping will greatly
reduce the size of transmission. The image itself is plenty sharp. Good
shot!

A reasonable picture, but many of us would like enough cropping
to make the hummingbird take up more space on the picture
displayed.
