Hello
I have a couple of questions regarding the purchase of a wall aquarium.
I am looking for a fish tank (preferably for salt water fish) that is about
5' in length and 4" in depth. I have checked online and have seen various
tanks vary from $200 (click link
http://www.bizarreaquariums.com/index2.html) all the way up to thousands of
dollars.
Is there anything I should be looking for when I purchase an in wall
aquarium? Why is there such a variation in price? I have no idea what
problems I may encounter if I purchase a cheaper priced aquarium (which is
what I intend to do).

Those tanks are just too narrow for any kind of fish. Perhaps only
suitable for a few snails and some skinny plants.
Much better to open up the wall and fit a more standard aquarium in
there, perhaps a 4 foot long 50-55 gallon. |

Yes. Don't do it. They are just too narrow. Difficult to set up (how do you
arrange gravel and rock and plants when you can barely get your hands to the
bottom), wrong size for fish (anything larger than a molly couldn't even
turn without bumping its head), and a nightmare to clean and maintain (how
do you get to the bottom again? At least my elbow and hand is wider than 3
1/2 inches)
If you want a see-through aquarium then get a regular size tank and set it
into a cutout in the wall such that it is flush on one side and you can do
all the maintenace from the other side. There are many, many beautiful
examples of such installations where the from the display side the tank is
even framed like a live picture.
