rug rats, salad beetles and nifty nines.
Well, I think it's time to ignite the process to get Dr. Demento
into in the National Radio Hall of Fame. I recommend the good
old Doc be elected for the
National Pioneer Category
My premise is Dr. Demento's tireless effort to preserve the
comedy/novelty format as well his travels.
but these are the other categories
* Pioneer Network or Syndicated
* Active Network or Syndicated
* Pioneer Local or Regional
* Active Local or Regional
See website for details.

I'm just wondering why the National Radio Hall of Fame is in Chicago instead of
some place like Pittsburgh (home of the first commercial broadcast station), or
southern California (where Bill Drake first worked his "Boss Radio" magic)....r

Maybe because N.Y.C. and L.A. already have the Museum of Television and
Radio, now known as the Paley Center for Media?

I went to Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications back in the day, and
it seemed like a real museum to me. They cover the whole history of
broadcasting, so I think the Bill Drake connection is too flimsy for a
siting decision. Pittsburgh is a site I could advocate. Chicago doesn't seem
like a bad place for it, though. I wish their board of advisers was more
national in its scope.
For more about the status of the museum and the NRHoF, read this:
http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/thebusiness/080731/
It turns out that America has a lot of radio museums, but most celebrate
the hardware rather than the content. Several states have their own
state-level Broadcast Halls of Fame as well. We have the Marconi Museum
right here in Bedford, NH (and there is a rationale for it being here).
So one could spend a lot of time trying to get any famous syndicated or
network pesonality recognized in the many broadcasting museums we have.
IMHO, the NRHoF looks like one of the more worthy ones, but it does
have its problems.
