Frieda from Columbia, SC.
Not many birds in the past few weeks. Don't know if it's because of that
darn white cat or just that time of the year.

Strange... I read follow-ups to your roll call request hours before your OM
appeared. Anywoo..
Unusually warm (hot for Nov) weather here in the upper midwest. But soon to
end. The juncos are back in force.
Happy Birding

Hi Frieda,
Don't feel bad ... I have two black cats visiting my yard! So far, I've
seen no sign that they've caught anything.
My Evening Grosbeaks and Pine Grosbeaks are back so my backyard is quite
busy now. I'm also getting Blue Jays, BC chickadees, RB nuthatches, Downy
woodpeckers and Hairy woodpeckers.

Pretty quiet out here on the prairies. Some blue jays, magpies,
juncos, and black capped chicadees as well as our hairy and downey
woodpeckers. We have had record-breaking warm temperatures for the
last week or so - but things are about to get cold and nasty.
We leave on a month-long trip tomorrow so hopefully we will miss the
nasty weather. We drive down to Minneapolis to pick up a friend, head
west and then south to Salt Lake City, La Vegas and San Francisco.
From San Francisco we fly to China for 10 days in Beijing and
Shanghai. When we return we'll spend US Thanksgiving with our grandson
and his parents in San Francisco before heading home. Not sure what
wild life we'll find along the way but we plan to visit several of the
National Parks in Utah, Nevada and California. Should be fun!

Mostly LBBs here (probably sparrows). Some doves. |
Some starlings. Have occasionally seen a bluejay or a
cardinal lately.
A cat probably from a nearby apartment complex
occasionally occasionally comes over, doesn't stay long,
and the birds come back out soon after the cat leaves.
A small dog which often visits here tends to mostly
ignored by the birds. |

A hailstorm just moved thru from the ocean and it dropped a lot of rain,
too. When the sun winked out, I looked into the backyard a saw a bunch of
LBJs, so I got my binos and scanned, noting (most numerous first): juncos
(6- , pidgeons (3), Annas hummingbirds (2), red-breasted nuthatch, northern
flicker, golden crowned sparrow (his golden crown looked kinda ratty),
townsends warbler (way in the pine tree out back - but I'm pretty sure 'twas
him), and one yellow rumped female warbler (I think that was she was - she
wasn't a female townsends for sure). That's the most different species at
one time this year! Missing were the chickadees (usually the most numerous),
purple finches and the stellars jays. Then a couple of crows flew in a
spooked them.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm in northern Alabama. |
Also, I think I saw a crow fly over since the last post. |

Rick in Fargo--birds migrants still around--Harris's and White-throated. |
Interesting though had no grosbeaks or orioles this fall but, in the
spring they were all over.
Off to marrow to say with the non-hunters in North Central ND.

The local park where I take most of my bird pictures had a menage a
trois of hooded mergansers this afternoon -- two males and a female.
They were the first new waterfowl there in ages. I was getting tired
of the same old mallards, geese, and wood ducks.

Still in the very low 80's and high 70's. A few yellow-rumps, a red-naped
sapsucker, Northern flickers, and a Cooper's hawk in the last few days.

I've got a dark eyed junco of the slate colored variety that seems most
closely related to the NORTHERN ROCKY contingent... That's not unheard of
here, but not the norm, either...
This is the second consecutive season, and I'd bet it's the SAME bird...
This has been a GREAT migration season, even though MOST of the migration
happens either west or east of here...

Yup, still here in Minnesota. |
I'm breaking out a chilled bottle of bubbly regardless

I voted for, but most of all I'll celebrate the end of all
the obnoxious political TV commercials.
