Perhaps it is nutty ideas like that one that hinder your search for a
woman?
I don't know it if it is nutty. There was a study back in the 70's that
claimed that women living in close quarters tended to synchronize cycles,
and that it started to happen within a few months. Apparently the alleged
phenomenon has been studied at length with some studies confirming the
original finding and others failing to support it. The idea of it being
affect by the moon has also been studied, and FWIW, some native cultures
refer to menstruation as being "with the moon".
I can't say if he is right or wrong, but I wouldn't call the suggestion
nutty, since some professionals claim it to be true.
|
It's not a hard science but there is ample evidence.
From a site I looked up:
"The relationship between the moon's cycles and menses is so fundamental
that the two phenomena are related linguistically. The terms 'moon' and
'menstruation' share the same Latin or Greek root, m-, meaning 'to measure.'
Various world religions and cultures have acknowledged the bond between
women and the moon. Traditional Chinese Medicine links the moon with the
feminine, or yin principle. Jewish tradition dictates that women should
celebrate Rosh Chodesh, the new moon. Many cultures have assigned the moon a
goddess, from Babylonian Ishtar to Greek Artemis. This connection endures
today with religious, spiritual, and even health practices. Herbalist
Rosemary Gladstar writes that "all the fluid energy of the earth responds to
the moon cycles" and advises her amenorrheic patients to pay attention to
the lunar cycle as an adjunct to herbal therapy to regulate menstruation.
(1) Although it is clear that the menstrual cycle lasts more or less as long
as the lunar cycle, the reason why such a relationship should exist is not
so obvious."
And again, it is unique among mammals to the human species.

No no, no one is disputing the idea of sync-ing up a together when in
close proximity. That's a known trend. What I dispute is that cycles are
then controlled by the "full moon" as Paul suggested. Women make full
use of the entire month, not just the full moon. Why cultures may refer
to the moon would be that it happens monthly, like the moon. Not
necessarily WITH the moon. |

I know that the Australian aborigines used the moon's cycles to determine
fertility periods of when they could either take advantage of or avoid to
control their populations. So if a man "had too many children" they would
simply avoid sex during certain phases of the moon.
The modern form of this is called the "rhythm and blues" method. But then
most people today are pretty out of touch with natural forces.

Why is it women relate to male sterotypes unless they consistently choose

Go to a major wine tasting in your area (one with more than 100 wines on

Over here, the tastings usually go for 3-4 hours.
At about the 2&1/2 hour mark, the ladies become *quite* friendly.....

Yeah. And when that failed, there was always the old, "leaving the
newborn outside overnight" method.
Humans across the ages and between cultures have always exercised the
right to choose not to raise a child conceived or born at a time when
the welfare of the mother, the family or the tribe was at stake.
Do you know the alternate name for women practicing "the rhythm method"?

Ancient cultures were typically more compassionate than that as a rule so
long as they were not desperate for food supplies. Some even invented
condoms using animal intestines. Some African tribes even invented the
morning after pill.

Yes, well it is an inexact science, yes. Ovulation can occur spontaneously
and not always weeks apart. Paternal twins are often a result of that.

Unless you're talking about that old-time favorite, the sharpened stick,
post proof or retract.
"Too many children" always met the criteria for selective reduction.
Additionally, preemies were at high risk for "exposure", as well as
multiples (twins, trips) and babies with obvious handicaps or
deformities. There were rare exceptions, especially in the relatively
prosperous MesoAmerican cultures where dwarves and infants exhibiting
the symptoms of Down's Syndrome were cherished and revered.
