Hi all,

My 14yr old Missy has recently been losing fur from her belly, she's had
cystitis in the past and I wondered if it was due to that that she had
been over-grooming her belly. The vet is undecided if it's that or a
possible skin condition (there is one small scab there but nothing major
apart from loss of fur).

Does anyone have any ideas or opinions..? She doesn't appear to be in any
discomfort and is eating normally. I can't tell if she's urinating
normally as she always goes outside and rarely if ever uses a litter tray.

Cheers,

Ivor

When Rainbow does this, it was usually a result of an allergy...for her,
from fleas. Yes, I put anti-flea stuff on her, and the others, but if by
chance one escapes she picks up the scent and...the rest is itching.

Hi

It could be stress - we find cats over groom when stressed. Are any
cats perhaps coming into your house while you are not there? Have you
moved anything around in the house? Got a new animal or edition to the
family? Your cat could benefit from having a feliway plugged in
(Natural pheromones help with calming them) & a microchip Catflap
http://www.bestcatflaps.co.uk if you are having other cats coming in?

Try also applying frontline incase she has flea allergic dermatitis
and yuur house may benefit from a spray with a good household flea
spray (such as indorex or acclaim)

Another possibility is a hormonal change, although rare in cats or an
allergy which are on the increase all the time.

Good luck and feel free to email me for any further help -

No to all those, I'm afraid. Might try a Feliway though.

I actually use Stronghold, which is similar but also treats ear mites and
roundworm. She has it regularly once a month and I've never seen fleas on
her. Might try the household spray though.

I'm beginning to lean towards the allergy theory, although to what is
still a mystery to me and the vet.

Thanks,

Ivor
