This Asimov children's book is about 60 pages long and tells of
strange animal behaviors, odd human customs, and incredible human
feats. In it, you'll find out what animal Florence Nightingale always
kept in her pocket, why horses shouldn't always be taught to dance,
what Babylonian gardener was to be executed but became king instead,
who Louis IX's dinner guests were and why, which Grand Vizier used 400
camels to carry his library for him everywhere in alphabetical order,
why an old woman killed Sir Admiral Cloudesley Shovel, what George III
wrote on the Fourth of July, what the Egyptians trained baboons to do,
and how parrots were used in WWI.

On one page, you see five people in a line for the Department of
Employment, holding tools of their trades. The last man, holding a
piece of paper, is shown in silhouette. Next to that, it says:

He
-lost his job in 1832.
-was defeated for the legislature in 1832.
-failed in business in 1833.
-suffered a nervous breakdown in 1836.
-was defeated for speaker of the Illinois state legislature in 1838.
-was defeated for nomination for Congress in 1843.
-lost renomination to Congress in 1848.
-was rejected for land office in 1849.
-was defeated for the Senate in 1854.
-was defeated for nomination for vice-president in 1856.
-was defeated for the Senate in 1858.
-became the sixteenth president of the U.S. in 1861.
