The reason I brink this up is I think that more than a few anime
seem to have crime-avenging superhero characters. Steam Detectives for
example. Even Kenshin of Rurouni Kenshin can be seen as an evil-
avenging superhero of sorts.

How about Strike-Man from YUA. Err, perhaps not.

But... but... he has the Balls of Justice!
^_^
At least, he does in the dub. His original Japanese dialog was nowhere
near as over-the-top as his dub lines were...

*a certain blue dog perks up*
Woof: Balls?
His Owner: Balls of Justice? What kind of stupid weapon is...
*the dog bolts through the front gate*
Woof: **BALLS!!!**
*...knocking his owner a few feet into the air*
Owner: Ow.
*the little dog chases after Strike-Man*
Woof: Balls-balls-balls!!
*and skids to a halt when sees the hero's 'weapon of choice'*
*the poor dog sulks*
Woof: *groan* Balls...

That was one instance, among many, where I thought the English actor did |
a better job. If you saw how this guy was portrayed in the manga, he
DEFINITELY is over the top !

In which at no point was it ever mentioned that the Last Son of Planet
Vegeta was a strange visitor from another planet.

Fact is that whatever the case, the Superman
influence was just one of many that Toriyama
was working from. |

I liked it. Some of the short stories are better than others.
'Through the pain' was probably the best one. The first time I
watched it I hadn't seen The Dark Knight yet, but I decided to rewatch
it after I saw the movie and it was a lot better. There are a lot of
plot points that subtley tie into the live action movie that went over
my head the first time I viewed it.
